My Dad needs hearing aids. My mother already has some, but she's not entirely happy with them. The cost is so high, but I want him to have something nice. We haven't gone anywhere yet.

Are there any do's or don'ts that anyone can recommend? I 'd like to have some information before making/going to an appointment.

We don't know much about it (even though Mom has a set). In retrospect, I wish we would have done more research before buying her hearing aids. Any... and I mean, ANY information you can give us would be GREATLY appreciated. We want to get the best bang for our buck <img src=" title="Very Happy" />

Hello!

What does your dad's hearing loss look like? Has he been recently tested? Is he currently wearing hearing aids? What type of hearing aids does your mom wear and what does her hearing loss look like? The reason I need to know is there are literally hundreds of different types of hearing aids out there and they all work best with one type of loss or another. In the meantime, you might want to take a look at [url:ixdizbp5]http://www.aidright.com[/url:ixdizbp5] They have a wide selection of the best types of hearing aids, and you might be able to save a few thousand dollars.

A few things to watch out for is a trial period. When you go to a clinic, make sure that they have a trial period of at least 30 days. That way, if your dad isnt happy with the hearing aids, he can return them. Be wary of sales tactics. Many people will tell you that you can save a lot of money by doing a "hearing aid trade-in." There is no such thing as a trade in, its just a way to make the sale. Oftentimes, they will just tell you an initial higher price, then offer a "trade in" and they are selling them to you at their normal price. Dont get pressured into buying any hearing aid because a clinic has a one day sale that is only available today. That is another sales tactic.

You also want to make sure that you are going to someone who is reputable and has worked with many patients and that also offers a wide variety of hearing aids. A center that only offers one type of hearing aid usually costs more and usually dont have the best selection of hearing aids to treat all types of hearing loss.

Unfortunately, in the hearing aid world, what you pay for is what you get. If you buy a very cheap hearing aid, you will get a cheap hearing aid. Make sure that the hearing aid is from a major manufacturer like Starkey, Siemens, Rexton, Oticon, Widex, ReSound, etc. I have found in my own practice that most people are not happy with hearing aids made from Magnatone, Vivatone, or Praire. But, take a look at that website above, they have great prices on name-brand hearing aids.

If you can, post the results of their audiogram (hearing test) and Ill take a look at it <img src=" title="Smile" />

Hope this helps!
