This is fairly shocking and is another nail in the coffin of why hormone replacement isn't such a good thing. With the already known cancer risks, it's looking a less and less useful treatment.

Is there really much difference between HRT and taking bcps each day? I take them continously (no break pills) because I have endometriosis.
I think I'm willing to risk some hearing loss. I don't know that I'll continue taking the pills after menopause (probably just a few years away because my ovaries are damaged), but I'm not that concerned that it's causing hearing loss.
There so are many other side effects to worry about!

The largest study ever to analyze the hearing of women on hormone-replacement therapy has found that women who take the most common form of HRT have a hearing loss of 10% to 30% more compared to similar women who have not had the therapy. The results are being published online this week by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).

rankly I'm surprised that we haven't heard more about the effects of female hormones on hearing loss. For many years I've been hearing anecdotal evidence that hormonal changes cause hearing loss. Women regularly report sudden drops in hearing with childbirth, menopause, and hysterectomies. There's the occasional medical report that confirms the stories, but the information does has apparently not yet reached the general public!
