This is excellent news for those who suffer from the disease. All round it is a cruel and difficult to cope with disease, so to lose one's hearing to it as well must be very difficult.

This is interesting. I never knew about Sickle Cell Disease before. This is less discussed topic around the world I think.

About seven percent to nine percent of black Americans carry the sickle cell trait. About 1 in 400 has sickle cell disease, and 20 percent to 25 percent of people with sickle cell disease have sensorineural hearing loss. Sudden deafness has also been reported in connection with this condition, although in some cases hearing will return.

I guess so...is there any cure for it? how to cope with this loss? is it a total loss of hearing?
